Baby it’s cold outside!

Have you planned a Winter Marketing Campaign?

Today marks the first official day of winter in New Zealand – which means another seasonal marketing opportunity is upon us! Regardless of your industry or niche, your business can certainly benefit from tugging on your customers’ heartstrings during the colder months.

Here’s how…

Let people know how you’ll warm them up!

Whether you’re offering hot coffee, winter jackets, wool socks, or winter bedding – these are a few of our favourite things in June! Promote those items that will help your customers feel warm and cosy to showcase your business as the fix for cold weather.

For example, if you run a café or restaurant, consider highlighting a Winter-themed menu, or offering seasonal specials. Not only will these help you make use of local and seasonally appropriate produce – they can also help appeal to your target audience’s desire for comfort food during the cold months!

Tell your customers to stay at home.

Most people want to stay rugged up as much as possible through June and July, so inviting them to stay at home is perfect at this time of year – particularly if you run an online store, or deliver goods and services to them.

Send an email newsletter to commiserate with your customers over how cold it is – then direct them to your website and offer them a winter discount, or remind them about your free shipping offer. Find you convert more sales via Facebook? Highlight all goods and services that are relevant to your customers in winter with great photos and emotive content that gives them that warm, fuzzy feeling.

Solve their cold-season problems.

Great marketing is often about discovering your consumers’ pain point and then solving that problem for them – and winter is no exception. Think about the key enquiries you received over winter last year, or look over your sales data to see if any patterns present themselves. Was there a spike in a particular product last June that you can highlight again this year?

A plumber might highlight thermal wraps for hot water cylinders to help offset their customer’s increasing power bills. A garden centre might offer a discount on frost netting to help their customers protect their beloved citrus trees from the cold weather. An online clothing store might offer a free pair of thermal socks on every purchase over $50.

If in doubt, ask! Email your customers asking what problems they need your help solving in winter, or post a question or poll on your social media channels for feedback and insight.

Here’s something you can do in 5 minutes!

Throw up a Facebook post today – or schedule one to be published over the weekend – celebrating (or commiserating!) the arrival of winter. Remind your customers how you can help them over winter, link to a relevant product, add some cute snowflake emojis and you’re done. Easy!
